Mostly, I want to hear stories. What's it like to be in a multi-person long term relationship?

I've been thinking a lot about why monogamy and the nuclear family is so dominant when it seems much more efficient to live in bigger groups that share ------ partners, child-rearing responsibility, and resources/work.

There must be a reason, but I don't see it. Could it really be as simple as instability? I doubt it...
